McDonald’s India: McDonald’s India has made a big announcement about your favourite food items. McDonald’s India (North and East) has removed tomatoes from its food products menu. The company issued a statement today on July 7, saying that it has temporarily removed tomatoes from its menu due to procurement difficulties. A McDonald’s India (North and East India) spokesperson said that due to seasonal issues, the food chain could not include tomatoes in its food menu.

However, McDonald’s India’s western and southern franchisees have said that while 10 to 15 per cent of its stores have been barred from including tomatoes in food items, the company is not facing severe tomato availability issues in these regions. It has also been said that the problem of flies increases in the country during monsoon; if this happens, the bad batch of tomatoes is destroyed. McDonald’s India West and South have said this is a seasonal problem, and restaurants and the food industry must face it yearly during the monsoon.
Tomato Supply Chain Has Been Affected
Although McDonald’s India has not said it is taking this decision due to the non-availability of tomatoes, it is clear that the prices of tomatoes are skyrocketing in the country because of the heavy rains in many states. Due to this, the supply chain has been affected due to seasonal problems, from transportation to crop quality, and adverse effects are seen. In areas like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Uttar Pradesh, the price of tomato has reached up to Rs 130-155 per kg.

McDonald’s India has mentioned in its entire statement that this is a temporary problem, and the company is looking at how tomatoes can be included back in its food menu as soon as possible. The company has also said that the brand has always been cautious about food quality and safety. For this reason, tomatoes must be removed from the food menu for the time being as they cannot pass the company’s world-class quality check.
