The Economic Times report claims that after the merger of Star India and Viacom18, Disney Hotstar will be the only streaming platform. The company does not want to run two streaming platforms. Jio Cinema will be merged. Reliance Industries has considered several options for the streaming business. Earlier, there was a discussion about whether two platforms would be run. One would be for sports, and the other would work in the entertainment sector. However, sources have claimed that the company liked the Disney Hotstar platform due to its technology. He wants to run it only.
Disney Hotstar Has 50 Crore Downloads, and Jio Cinema Has 10 Crore
Many media reports claimed that Reliance Industries, owned by Mukesh Ambani, does not favour running two different platforms. Disney Hotstar has around 50 crore downloads, and Jio Cinema has 10 crore downloads. In February this year, Reliance and Disney had a deal to merge Star and Viacom 18. This deal is worth about $8.5 billion. Due to this, the country’s largest entertainment company will also come into existence.
3 Platforms Of Voot Brand Were Merged Into Jio Cinema
According to Reliance Industries’ annual report, Jio Cinema has an average monthly user of 22.5 crore, while Disney Hotstar has around 33.3 crore. About 3.5 crore people have subscribed to this platform by paying fees, and during the Indian Premier League (IPL), this figure was 6.1 crore subscribers. Earlier, Viacom 18 merged its brand Voot with Jio Cinema. It had three platforms: Voot, Voot Select, and Voot Kids.
