Are you planning to buy a new cupboard for your home on Diwali? Or have you planned to install new furniture in your shop, office or factory? If anything like this, your cost may increase soon because the government can increase the tax rate on a special thing used in such furniture.
The drawer is made in the desk or cupboard. To open it, a slider is needed. The government will impose an anti-dumping duty on such sliders imported from China.
This Much Anti-Dumping Duty Will Be Imposed
DGTR, the investigation unit of the Ministry of Commerce, has asked the government to impose an anti-dumping duty of $422 per ton on drawer sliders coming from China. DGTR is taking this step to protect the small and medium industries making such sliders in the country.
The Directorate General of Trade Remedies investigated this matter based on complaints from the local industry. It found that the ‘Telescopic Channel Drawer Slider’ used in the drawer was exported from China to India at a lower price than normal. This was a kind of dumping. Therefore, it has been recommended that the government impose an anti-dumping duty.
The Finance Ministry Will Decide
DGTR often conducts such investigations and sends its recommendation to the Ministry of Commerce. After that, the ministry recommends imposing a duty along with its comments to the Finance Ministry. The Finance Ministry makes the final decision on whether to impose an anti-dumping duty on a product.
The DGTR said in a notification that imports also reduce the domestic industry’s prices. Therefore, it has been recommended that anti-dumping duty be imposed. The import of these sliders from China has increased from 17,436 tonnes in 2019-20 to 46,276 tonnes in 2022-23.
