Ashok Chandra: The Government of India has decided to hand over the command of Punjab National Bank to Ashok Chandra. The Financial Services Institution Bureau (FSIB) has approved his appointment, clearing the way for his appointment as the new MD and CEO of PNB. Ashok Chandra is currently posted as the Executive Director of Canara Bank. He will replace Atul Kumar Goel, who is retiring on December 31, 2024.
Started Banking Career With Erstwhile Corporation Bank
Ashok Chandra started his banking career in September 1991 as a PO of Erstwhile Corporation Bank. He holds a Master’s in Economics and is an Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. FSIB invited applications for the post of MD and CEO of PNB on August 1, 2024. The deadline for applying was August 29. He has worked as the head of all rural, urban, and metro branches. He has also taken charge of many zones and regions.

He also became Chief General Manager of Union Bank of India in 2020. FSIB has sent its recommendations to the Financial Services Department of the Finance Ministry. After this, they will be sent to the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which the Prime Minister chairs. After ACC approves, the Department of Personnel and Training announces the name. The MD and CEO of PNB have three years of tenure.
