Air India Vistara Merger: Preparations for the merger of Air India and Vistara Airlines are in full swing. These two airlines, owned by Tata Group, will become one this year. Due to this merger, about 600 Air India and Vistara Airlines employees may lose their jobs. All of them work as ground staff. Currently, about 23000 employees work in both these airlines. However, none of the flying staff will lose their jobs.
Efforts Are Being Made To Get Jobs In Other Companies Of Tata Group
According to sources, no place is being made for these 600 employees despite all efforts. Both airlines are trying to get these employees jobs in other companies of Tata Group. Despite this, those who cannot get jobs will be provided a Voluntary Separation Scheme package. However, sources claimed the merger would be completed by September or October. In such a situation, the exact number of those laid off would be known only then. But Air India has maintained silence on this issue.
Cabin Crew and Pilots Will Not Be Covered Under This Layoff
In both these airlines, the process of fitting the employees based on their performance and experience has been going on for the last several months. Their roles are also being decided in the giant airline formed after the merger. Both the airlines claim that this action is being taken fairly and transparently. Cabin crew and pilots are not going to be covered under this layoff. On May 12, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson and Vistara CEO Vinod Kannan held a town hall with the employees and discussed every aspect of the proposed merger.
9000 People Were Given Jobs After Buying Air India
This merger was announced in November 2022. After the deal is completed, Singapore Airlines will have a 25.1 percent stake in Air India. It has been approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the Competition Commission of India (CCI). After buying Air India in January 2022, the Tata Group employed about 9000 people on this airline. Under this merger, Air India Express and AIX Connect will also be merged.
