CNG Stations in India: The government is expanding the country’s CNG network. In response to a question in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, on this matter, the figures of CNG stations of all the states have been presented. It has revealed in which states the maximum number of CNG stations have been established so far.
At the same time, which state has the minimum number of CNG stations? Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi has said in his written reply that 6,861 CNG stations have been set up across the country by March 31, 2024.
The government has informed that, under the PNGRB Act, 2006, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) is trying to expand the CNG network in different cities of India in collaboration with various institutions.
These States Have The Most CNG Stations
According to the data presented by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Uttar Pradesh is the top state in India, with 1,081 CNG stations. Gujarat is second, with 1,017, and Maharashtra is third, with 964.
The Number Of CNG Stations Has Increased In Four Years
To promote clean energy in India, the central government is constantly trying to increase the number of CNG stations in the states. Its effect has also been visible in the last four years, as CNG stations have increased almost three times.
In 2020, there were 2,188 CNG stations across the country, which increased to 3,094 in 2021. In 2022, 4,433 CNG stations were established in India. At the same time, there were 5,665 CNG stations until 2023, which increased to 6,861 in 2024. The central government is continuously working on establishing 18,336 CNG stations across the country by the year 2032.
This State Has The Least Number Of CNG Stations
Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of CNG stations, while Jammu and Kashmir, the union territory, has only one CNG station so far. For the first time in 2024, a CNG station has been established in the state. Five CNG stations have been established in Puducherry, six in Tripura, and Daman and Diu. Regarding area, Delhi has the highest number of CNG stations, with 491.
