WTC 2021-23 Final Qualification Scenarios: India’s chances of final qualification for the ICC World Test Championship have suffered a blow after Australia suffered a 9-wicket defeat at the hands of Australia in the third Test match at the Border Gavaskar Trophy on Friday (February 3).
Australia has qualified for the final of the World Test Championship under the captaincy of Steve Smith in the absence of Pat Cummins. Australia has won 11 out of 18 matches in the 2021-23 cycle of the championship.
India’s team has suffered a loss in win percentage. This is the fifth defeat in 17 matches in the 2021-23 cycle of the championship. The winning percentage has come down from 64.06 to 60.29.
This Is How India Can Reach The Final
Apart from India, the Sri Lankan team is also in the race to qualify for the final. To qualify, India must win the fourth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this, he will not have to depend on the results of the Test matches between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
If India wins in Ahmedabad, its points will be 135, and the winning percentage will be 62.5. This will avert the danger to Sri Lanka. If Sri Lanka also wins on their New Zealand tour starting March 9, the maximum win percentage would be 61.11.
If India loses the fourth Test and Australia manages to draw the series 2-2, the points would be 123, and the winning percentage would be 56.94. If the 4th Test is drawn, the maximum number of points would be 127, and the win percentage would be 58.79. In such a situation, Sri Lanka can reach the final by defeating New Zealand 2–0 in the Test series.
