There is a race to buy a BrahMos missile in the world. India and Russia have jointly developed this missile. Just last month, India delivered a BrahMos missile to the Philippines. India and the Philippines had an agreement for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile for $375 million in 2022. BrahMos CEO and MD A. D. Rane has said that he has received an “extremely encouraging response” to the Indian weapon system. He said countries like the BrahMos missile are in Africa and South America.
Company’s Emphasis On Export Of BrahMos
Speaking to WION News, A. D. Rane said, since becoming a part of BrahMos in December 2021, our main objective has been to meet the requirements of the armed forces, explore the export capabilities of the BrahMos missile system, and accelerate indigenization efforts to increase production.
He said that by adopting a new approach and new strategies, within a short period of 2.5 years, we have been successful in getting our first mega export defense order of USD 375 million with the Philippine Armed Forces, an order for mobile coastal batteries for the Indian Navy and one of the largest contracts of Rs 20000 crore (approx) from the Indian Navy.
BrahMos Increasing Presence In Arms Trade
The CEO and MD of BrahMos Aerospace said we are working diligently to increase our presence in the arms trade and compete with powerful countries. BrahMos Aerospace got its first production order from the Indian Navy in 2005. Within two and a half years of our tenure, we got production orders worth Rs 34000 crore, including India’s first mega export order with the Philippines and the largest production order from the Indian Armed Forces.
BrahMos To Get New Buyers
A. D. Rane said that South-East Asia, Middle East-North Africa (MENA region), and other African and Latin American countries want BRAHMOS systems and have expressed keen interest in their procurement. A definite list of such countries already exists. We are advancing our marketing strategy to export BRAHMOS to our friendly countries.
BrahMos is one of the most sought-after cruise missile systems in the world, and we have received interest from many foreign-friendly countries around the globe, including Indonesia. We are in advanced stages of negotiations with interested countries. We hope to sign our next export contract soon. BrahMos, as a high-technology defense product, has great potential to become India’s leading arms export in the coming decades.
