US President Joe Biden’s two-year-old German Shepherd dog Commander bit another Secret Service agent at the White House. This is the 11th known bite incident involving the Commander. “Yesterday (Monday) at approximately 8 p.m., a Secret Service Uniformed Division police officer came into contact with a First Family pet who bit him,” USSS communications chief Anthony Guglielmi told CNN on Tuesday. The officer was treated by medical personnel on campus.
Guglielmi said the injured officer spoke with Secret Service Uniformed Division Chief Alfonso M. Dyson Sr. on Tuesday and is now “doing OK.” According to CNN, the Commander has bitten people at the White House and Delaware on at least 11 occasions.
In a November 2022 incident, an officer was hospitalized after the president was bitten on his arms and thighs. White House officials said in July that Biden was working on new training and leash protocols for family pets after the incidents.
When asked if there was new training or any further actions would be taken, Elizabeth Alexander, the First Lady’s communications director, told CNN: “The First Lady is looking at ways to help the Commander handle the often unpredictable nature of the White House grounds. The family is working.” Biden’s other dog, Major, was also involved in biting incidents at the White House. The German Shepherd was moved out of the White House, and the Commander was brought in in 2021.
