Japan Builds Tunnel in Sea, Countries Upset Over Nuclear

Japan is trying to release the water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea. Whereas due to its radioactive, there is a danger of death of sea creatures. However, Japan says it will refine it and put it in the sea. He has also made a tunnel inside the sea at 1 kilometre from the coast. But all the countries have stood against it.

The case is related to Japan’s ruined Fukushima nuclear plant. Its operator began testing Monday of newly built facilities to discharge treated radioactive wastewater into the ocean. The local fishermen community and neighbouring countries have strongly opposed the move.

Operator Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCH) said fresh water had been used instead of treated water during tests at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Plant crews tested the pump and emergency stop device at the newly built facility. A large amount of seawater will be added to the treated water at this centre.

After this, this water will go into the tunnel built under the sea and then be released into the ocean about one kilometre from the coast. The tunnel built under the sea and other important centres are nearing completion.

The Operator Said – Will Test For Two Weeks

TEPCO has said the tests could continue for about two weeks before the Nuclear Regulation Authority could carry out mandatory pre-operational tests, possibly as early as July. In April 2021, the Japanese government announced plans to release treated but small amounts of radioactive water into the ocean. He said that it is at a safe level.

Japanese officials said water is currently stored in thousands of tanks at the plant and needs to be moved to prevent accidental leaks if an earthquake occurs. The local fishermen community has strongly opposed the plan. At the same time, South Korea, China, and Pacific island nations have also expressed security concerns.

In March 2011, an earthquake and tsunami destroyed the cooling system at the Fukushima Daiichi plant, causing three reactors to melt down and large amounts of radiation to leak.
