The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final again dashed India’s hopes. Australia beat India by 209 on Sunday. This title match was played at The Oval Ground in London. India has suffered its second consecutive defeat in the WTC final. New Zealand defeated Team India by 8 wickets in the final of the first edition, and then India’s command was in the hands of Virat Kohli.
In 2021, the final match was held in Southampton, England. At the same time, after the defeat against Australia, captain Rohit Sharma has suggested three changes in the WTC final. Now the thing to be seen will be whether the International Cricket Council (ICC) will implement Rohit’s demand.
Rohit said in the press conference that the WTC final should be held only in June and not in England. He said that a series of three games should be kept for the final instead of one match. Rohit said, “We should not play the WTC final only in June. This final can be played anywhere in the world. It is not necessary to play only in England.” He said, “I would like the WTC final to be a series of 3 Test matches. We worked, fought, and reached here, but we played only 1 match. I think a 3-match series in the next WTC cycle would be ideal.”
The skipper also expressed his disappointment at not winning the trophy. Significantly, India has not won any ICC trophies for ten years. Rohit said, “It is disappointing and heartbreaking that we are not winning trophies. I am very disappointed. The players are also very disappointed.” Rohit said the best players should be selected for the next WTC final. He said, “It needs to be decided who are the best players for the next WTC final. It is important, and we will take decisions in this direction.”
